Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for helping to prepare, analyze and manage the accounting and financial reporting for various family-owned entities, investment partnerships, charitable foundations, trusts and individual family members as directed by the Director of Finance and Accounting, to whom this position reports. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of accounting and investment records and providing valuable financial insights and strategic recommendations to support our business objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in the continued buildout of the family office and learning the current legacy structure and operations to assist with the continued setup of new systems and reporting. Candidate will have an opportunity to get involved with broader family office-building activities.
- Assist with the documentation of standard operating procedures related to the accounting and financial reporting function to establish “best practices” for the family office.
- Primarily responsible for day-to-day accounting operations and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
- Prepare and review financial statements, investment reports, and budgets.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies.
- Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and provide strategic recommendations to senior management.
- Assist in the cash management analysis, preparation of budgets, financial forecasts, and variance analysis.
- Participate in the creation of check payments, ACH transfers, and bank wires.
- Assist with preparation of analysis and reports for family meetings, family foundations, or other board/committee meetings.
- Prepare ad hoc reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data.
- Coordinate and support our outside tax preparer. Assist in information gathering and ensure recommended tax payments and filings are made on a timely basis.
- Work closely with outside accountants, banks, investment custodians, insurance brokers/agents, third party administrators, attorneys, and systems service providers to achieve various objectives.
- Assist with the preparation and review of partnership and trust forms and relevant documentation, including 1041s and 1065s
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification; 3+ years (5 preferred) of relevant experience.
- Proven experience as a Senior Accountant or similar role in a business setting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience with one or more general ledger accounting and portfolio accounting systems preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated client service mentality.
- Ability to work within a team, manage projects within a tight timeframe, and simultaneously manage multiple assignments.
- Willingness to undertake additional responsibilities depending on office workflow.
- Unquestionable personal standards, confidentiality, and ethics.
- Family office experience, including administration of Lender/Bagel profits interest structure, is a plus.
- Experience with trusts in a family office capacity
