SVP Finance – Family Office
Summary:
The SVP of Finance is responsible for leading the finance function across both corporate and personal domains. The role requires collaboration with functional leaders across the organization as well as external partners to manage and track a complex financial organization with business units spanning industries, geographies and business models.
Your main responsibility will be to hone and develop the finance strategy and structure, with majority of time spend on the Principal’s business activities. This will include advising on capital allocation strategy, designing and implementing FP&A and budgeting processes, improving accounting systems and processes, ensuring compliance with accounting and tax regulations and solidifying the culture of financial ownership and responsibility across business unit leaders.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in corporate accounting and finance, excellent leadership skills, and a proven track record of developing and implementing financial strategies in smaller, scrappier organizations.
Across the full organization (personal and professional):
- Build org / finance function within a quickly growing organization
- Establishing key financial strategy pillars across the organization
- Building a robust and strategy FP&A process and partnering with Ops on QKR setting
- Determine what should be done in house vs done by 3rd party vendors
- Assess and set technology needs for financial monitoring and reporting
- Set processes / meeting cadence with the Principal and with business leaders relating to budgeting, forecasting and reporting
- Plan, direct, and manage all operational accounting functions
- Partner with US and Non-US tax professionals to manage the consolidation of all financial data to produce consolidated business financial statements
- Manage and advise on P&Ls (detailed revenue and expense tracking at a level that provides ability to generate actionable insights)
- Manage banking and bill payments across multiple US and Non-US entities, including coordination with external banks and billpay providers
- Develop and manage cash flow projection process
- Monitor, track and invoice for all AR, including royalty payments / reconciliation and brand partnerships
- Maintain a continuous improvement mindset: assess and improve current accounting operations, systems, and processes, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
- Advise (alongside other trusted advisors) on entity structuring and assist with formation of new entities
- Set up new bank and crypto accounts, manage formation documents as well as other key corporate documentation for new entities
- Management of employee finances and operations
- Partner with HR professional to manage and oversee payments for employee payroll and benefits
- Refine process and oversee employee expenses, including credit and debit card expenses, RAMP, etc.
Across the Principal’s businesses:
- Collaborate with Operating Partner to develop and monitor key performance metrics across the business
- Partner cross-functionally with other departments of the Company to obtain on-the-ground insights on spending and improve financial-ownership mindsets within the organization
- Manage the company’s budget and projection processes, collaborating with business unit heads to develop and drive accountability
- Provide performance reports to senior leadership at regular cadence (business unit heads, Operating Partner, Principal)
- Track internal and external reimbursements and expenses
- Track and monitor commission and royalty payments / reconciliation
- Partner with tax professionals and VP of Ops to determine process for tracking and recording business expenses for appropriate business deductions
- Build process and prepare calculations for bill backs
- Partner with tax professionals for 1099 issuance
- Ensure the Company has sufficient corporate insurance coverage
- Oversee regulatory reporting requirements
- Manage of eminutes, Vcorp, etc. to monitor and track LLC registration and fees alongside accountants
- Track promissory notes and interest payments, gifting and charitable donations to share with accountants
- Partner with external Tax accountants to drive tax planning and compliance, building systems and processes that drive efficiency
Across the Principal’s personal finances:
- Collaborate with Family Office and Operating Partner to develop and monitor key performance metrics across personal finances
- Provide performance reports to senior leadership
- Manage the Principal’s budget and projection processes
- Partner with external accounting professionals to produce income/expense and balance sheet reporting
- Partner cross-functionally with Household team to obtain on-the-ground insights and to improve financial-ownership mindsets within the organization
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA and/or public accounting experience preferred
- 7+ years of accounting/finance experience within a family office or high net worth environment.
- Experience working with K1s, LLC’s and knowledge of related tax issues
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Entertainment expertise is a plus, but not required
- International experience / global tax experience is a plus, but not required
- Proficiency in QuickBooks or similar platforms
- Proficiency in MS Office / G-Suite products
- Resourceful with the able to identify and solve problems with minimal oversight
