Controller – Real Estate
Growing real estate operator with a portfolio of multifamily properties is seeking a Controller. This is an opportunity to play a key role in building the accounting and financial foundation of a growing real estate platform. The Controller will directly influence accounting infrastructure, systems, and financial strategy as the company continues to expand.
The Controller will lead the accounting and financial operations for a portfolio of multifamily properties. This individual will oversee reporting, budgeting, compliance, and process improvements while supporting strategic decision-making across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee monthly and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze income statements, balance sheets, and other performance reports.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations.
- Lead and mentor accounting staff; establish strong internal controls and standardized procedures.
- Direct budgeting and forecasting processes; provide financial insights to support operational decisions.
- Serve as primary contact for audits, reviews, and financial due diligence.
- Partner with operations to align accounting systems with property management platforms.
- Recommend process and systems improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or leadership role.
- Experience with multifamily property accounting is required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting and property management systems; advanced Excel skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
