Automotive Business Manager (Controller)


The Automotive Business Manager is a key leadership role responsible for managing the accounting, financial reporting, and business operations for a dealership group. This individual will oversee all aspects of financial management, including forecasting, budgeting, internal controls, compliance, and team development. The ideal candidate will have experience in dealership accounting and a proven ability to lead high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities:


  • Direct and manage all accounting functions for six dealership locations.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes and produce accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Oversee preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial planning.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturer reporting requirements and internal policies.
  • Supervise and mentor the accounting and office staff across all locations.
  • Maintain internal controls and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Partner with department heads (Sales, Service, Parts, F&I) to improve operational and financial outcomes.
  • Manage relationships with auditors, banks, and external stakeholders.
  • Assist ownership and executive leadership with strategic planning and financial analysis.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
  • Minimum 7+ years of accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years in a dealership controller or business manager role.
  • Multi-store dealership experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of dealership management systems (e.g., CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, Dealertrack).
  • Deep understanding of dealership accounting practices and financial statements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity, analytical ability, and attention to detail.
