The Controller will participate in the planned restructuring of the family office, related to tax law changes and cases, initially learning the current legacy structure and operations while assisting with the setup of new systems and reporting. While the Controller will report to you, they will also have a strong dotted line to the head of the family office with direct daily interactions.


Duties will include:
  • Cash management, payments, reconciliations and reporting
  • Philanthropic payments and reporting
  • All aspects of payroll for household staff
  • Insurance renewals and policy maintenance
  • All income tax filings- facilitate and manage, acting as primary point of contact with the outside accounting firm (BDO)
  • All other required filings such as FBAR and miscellaneous entity filings
  • Investment portfolio tracking and reporting
  • Interaction with separate business enterprises staff
  • Evaluating alternative systems and procedures for accounting and financial reporting to establish “ best practices” for the family office
  • Maintaining the highest level of confidentiality
  • Ensuring a smooth transition from the current Controller by taking comprehensive notes on her responsibilities and processes
  • Making sure that all deadlines are met and that all reports are extremely accurate and can be relied upon by management
  • Provide monthly detailed cash flow and expense analyses
  • Provide monthly balance sheets for the family office, trusts and foundations
  • Provide monthly details and analyses of the gains/losses from their investments for all entities
  • Handle all foreign bank account filings and miscellaneous entity tax filings
  • Oversea the retirement plan
  • Manage banking relationships and credit card accounts



Minimum Requirements are:
  • Bachelor’ s degree in Accounting
  • Strong background in accounting and a public/private experience mix
  • Exposure to wealth management
  • Understanding of best practices in a family office environment
  • Strong technical skills including Excel spreadsheets, Quicken and QuickBooks
  • Strong communication skills


Preferred Requirements are:
  • Master’ s degree
  • CPA designation
  • Family Office experience


The candidate must be an experienced individual who is self-directed and an effective problem solver with proven judgement. Honed interpersonal skills, a high sense of urgency, and an unquestioned confidentiality are essential. This is a unique opportunity to replace a long-standing individual who has served the family in both business and personal capacities for more than 20 years.


The successful candidate will be a “ hands-on” controller with responsibility for tracking, reporting and facilitating the financial affairs of a family, including trusts, a private foundation and associated business entities. He or she must have a minimum of fifteen years of accounting and business experience and have worked with reporting and analyzing investments. This individual must be extremely detail oriented and capable of providing highly accurate reports that can be relied upon by management.
