Job Description
Controller
Responsibilities:
- The Controller, Housing will plan, direct, and implement all accounting operations and finance management functions of Met Councils affordable housing portfolio
- Direct the accounting operations of Met Councils affordable housing portfolio including tenant billing, A/P, A/R, and bank reconciliations
- Review, analyze, and manage general ledger accounts for multiple affordable residential properties
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close of accounting and financial records
- Manage all accrual and cash basis accounting functions for the portfolio of properties
- Analyze & reconcile Gross Potential Rent
- Review invoices to ensure correct account coding and expense allocations
- Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules
- Produce the annual budget and provide forecasts for portfolio properties on cash and accrual bases; report significant budget differences to management
- Work closely with the CFO to ensure that expenses are on target with projections and that the organization operates within budget parameters
- Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles
- Review financial details from past, present, and forecasted operations; identify development opportunities and improvements that can be made
- Supervise Fiscal-Housing accounting staff including oversight of work product, organization structure, and the distribution of work
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk
- Work with external auditors and provide needed information for annual audits of housing entities
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Knowledge of and experience with city, state and federal affordable housing subsidy programs including relevant accounting and reporting requirements
- Strong management and supervisory skills
- Strong written and verbal communication, analytic, and presentation skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
