Assistant Controller

Full-service real estate development, construction and property management company is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its accounting team. You will oversee property accounting for a multifamily portfolio and will work closely with the Controller to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage all aspects of property accounting for a portfolio of multifamily properties.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Reconcile bank accounts, general ledgers, and balance sheets.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
• Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management processes.
• Support audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
• Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
• Assist in system improvements and process optimizations within Yardi.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3+ years of property accounting experience, preferably in multifamily real estate. Affordable housing experience a strong plus.
• Proficiency in Yardi is required.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
• Experience with financial statement preparation and reporting.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• CPA or CPA candidate is a plus.
